FAQ : Application of LNAs

• TGN SULNA 3022 / 3032 True Low Noise Series

The new TGN series of True Low Noise preamplifiers combines a very low noise figure with a relatively steadily matched input circuit. With many preamplifiers the trimmed on the laboratory table noise figure in real applications rises by a noticeable amount when connected to a real antenna as source. Thanks to a high reflection coefficient at the input port TGN True Low Noise preamplifiers stay closer to the nominal value in real world conditions. Finest N-Flange Plugs and a slim housing enable direct screwing onto common Coaxial relays (2 m and 70 cm version). Type 3022 is single stage, Typ 3032 is carried out two-staged.

FAQ

• What coax relay port isolation is necessary?

In a real very low noise amplifier we seldom find protective diodes. The TGN SULNA series can stand a maximum input of 5 dBm for the single stage 144 & 432 MHz types or 0 dBm for the two stage microwave types. That equals 3.2 mW respectively 1 mW. So what theoretical minimum port isolation must our planned coax relay obtain for a transmitting power of 100, 200, 500 or 1000W?

SULNA 3022 type

pwr isolation mW at LNA
100 w -45 dB 3.2 mW
200 w -48 dB 3.2 mW
500 w -52 dB 3.2 mW
1000 w -55 dB 3.2 mW

SULNA 3032 type

pwr isolation mW at LNA
100 w -50 dB 1 mW
200 w -53 dB 1 mW
500 w -57 dB 1 mW
1000 w -60 dB 1 mW

It is understood that for safe and permanent operation 3 or more dB of security bolster in port isolation should be available.
